Jaya Hey- The Complete Jan Gan Man

indian-national-anthem Did you know that the Indian National Anthem is a condensed one stanza version of a beautiful song penned by Rabindranath Tagore? The original song had five stanzas. Times Of India and Saregama have produced a compilation of all the five stanzas of the original song Jan Gan Man and presented it to the nation under the name Jaya Hey.

It is a 10 minute long soul stirring song played and sung by 39 renowned artists of India, including Girija Devi, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Nithyashree Mahadevan, Jagjit Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan etc. However, India’s pride Lata Mangeshkar and A.R. Rehman are missing from this.

Note that it would be wrong to call it the “Complete National Anthem”, as Times of India calls it, because only the first stanza of this song is recognized as the National Anthem. Treat it as a patriotic song but don’t call it the National Anthem.

This song is included in Rabindranath’s book "Geetanjali". He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 for this book.

No doubt the song evokes pride, but do you think it is right to commercialize our National Anthem as done by Times of India and Saregama?
